The secret for positive training

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

HOW TO MAKE YOUR FITNESS CHALLENGE A POSITIVE ONE...

Running on a treadmill with nowhere to go, pumping weights because you "have" too, choosing a training program that everyone else is doing. You may not get the best results that way.

"Do something today that your future self will thank you for"

You need to remember, you don't HAVE to workout, you GET to work out. Consider this, our bodies are designed to move with ease, without aches and pains ALL the time. As we age, this becomes more of a challenge. Joints start to cease up, there is less fluid between your joints to allow for that movement. The old saying "don't use it, lose is" is very prevalent in our society today.

Does this mean you HAVE to pump the heaviest weights you can find? That you HAVE to train like an olympic athlete? Absolutely not.

What you HAVE to do is USE your body in a way that allows for movement in all planes of motion to keep it STRONG and USEFUL. However, finding a program that suits your lifestyle is where people can fail. If you don't find something you enjoy, you will stop. Kind of like me and broccoli. I know it's good for me but I simply don't like the taste. So I find other foods that I enjoy and give me the same result as broccoli. You need to do the same with your fitness program.

First of all - GET MOTIVATED - why do you feel the NEED or why do you WANT to exercise?

  • get fit

  • lose weight

  • more energy

  • fit into "those" jeans again

  • feel better

  • sleep better

  • build muscle

  • manage chronic pain (first week of exercise will be a little painful)

  • improve memory

  • increase circulation

I could go on and on with the benefits you get from exercise. If you can go into an exercise program with these thoughts in your head instead of "I HAVE TO EXERCISE" and realize that what you are doing for your mind and body far outweighs any reason NOT to do it, it will give you a fighting chance to get to your end goal, which should actually be to live a LONG AND HEALTHY STRONG LIFE....not to be skinny.

So, how do we create a POSITIVE TRAINING program:

  1. Change your mindset from HAVE TO to GET TO exercise

  2. Choose what you actually like to do (weights, yoga, dance, sports, cycling, hiking - the choices are endless)

  3. Put it in your calendar like your doc's apt or your kids soccer game - it's that important and so are YOU!

  4. Get into it with your bestie - challenge them and support each other!

  5. Find an instructor online that you LOVE and make a schedule around those classes (lots available on YOUTUBE or right here :)

  6. Do NOT HESITATE! If today is the day, gear yourself up and remember - after you do it - YOU WILL FEEL AMAZING!

No matter what you choose to do, at the end of the day, you deserve an hour to just do you...take care of you....and remember, YOU ARE WORTH IT!
